Early Registration Off to Strong Start

July 1, 2010
With four solid events staged last season, excellent feedback and increased marketing, we expect to set new participation records at each of our races next season.

One early indicator is the 150+ athletes who took advantage of our Florida Halfathon Challenge series registration, allowing them to register for all four halfathons at one time. For comparison, last season, a total of 111 athletes qualified for a series ranking by completing at least three halfathons. Many athletes register for one or two races at a time, so we project 250 athletes will qualify for a final ranking.

Based on the growth in the last few years (2,100 entrants to 3,775 athletes last season), we expect to host a total of 4,500 athletes next season.

In order to communicate with our athletes efficiently, as well as attract new athletes, Race Director Chris Lauber has created a running-specific profile to complement the recently created and race-specific "Florida Road Races" page. Lauber intends to use both to keep endurance athletes up to date as the upcoming race season approaches.

In addition, the Florida Road Races page will have photos, videos, and links posted to it as time permits. Lauber also hopes the public page will provide a forum for discussion among athletes who participate in road races.

Help Inspire Others: Share Your Story of Achievement

July 1, 2010
Share your story of achievement and of overcoming obstacles, whether it was weight, substance abuse, physical limitations, etc. Our goal is to help provide inspiration to new athletes who are facing challenges of their own.

Your story does not need to be long, just a few paragraphs on what you overcame, how you did it, etc. Nor does it need to be a literary masterpiece – it just needs to be YOUR story. Also, we will take the liberty to edit it for space or clarity, but assure you we will not change the context of what you provide.

We encourage you to inspire others every chance you get, whether individually or through the media. You never know when you might inspire someone to change their life and lead a more healthy, active lifestyle.

In addition to offering finisher awards and event overall awards after each race, we will also track each athlete's finishing times and add them together to determine Champions of the Florida Halfathon Challenge.

Athletes accumulate their total finishing time by completing any three of our four halfathons during each season from Halloween through March. Those athletes who complete all four of our halfathons will have their slowest time dropped automatically.

To recognize our fastest and most consistent halfathon athletes, we will offer special overall and age-group rewards based on three halfathons. We will also recognize athletes who complete all four of our halfathons in a special way, yet to be determined.
